Older employees are unable to adapt to new technologies.![]()
This statement is completely false, Those that say this have no idea of what they’re saying when they bring forward such an inaccurate statement. If you are an older person of sixty, you have gone through more technological upheavals than any younger person around you. Let’s see some examples.
You’ve lived through the arrival of the credit card and got used to it in record time. seen the arrival of the electric type writer, photocopy machines and the fax machine, and learned to use them without any problem. At the same time you listened to music on vinyl disk, cassettes and compact disk. You were on the front line when the remote control appeared and among the first buyers of the micro-wave oven, the washing machine and the sound system.
You lived your life getting used to new technologies. You won’t change today ! Keep this legend (myth) from harming your chances to succeed, apply the following recommendations.
Learn how to use a computer and the Internet. Contrary to what you think, it’s easier than programming a video recorder.
Maintain a positive attitude towards new technologies. Would you go back in time ? Today, would you go without your credit card, your micro wave oven, your TV or your fax machine? It will be the same, a few years from now, when new equipment, appliances come from new technologies. Learn to use the most currant computer applications. You must absolutely master at least a word processing software and the email
Generally young and dynamic companies don’t like to be tied down by older workers.
This statement is also false. What is lacking in the new companies ? Its experience and credibility. You are able to offer these two competitive advantages to a new business.
If a new company is looking for financing and you’ve already negotiated many commercial loans, you become a resource of choice. If it’s looking to do business in territories that you’ve been in for ages , they really need you. If you have access to customers potentially impervious to small business presentations, you are possibly the spark plug that will permit this company to really get started.![]()
