Are you really RETIRED ?

You have reached the 50′s, 60′s. You’ve been working for the same company for the last 25 to 30 years. This morning your boss tel you there will be no more work for you at the end of the mouth. Does this mean your retired ?

You are if you accept the news saying: “That’s it. I’m to old and useless all I have to do now is go home and sit in my rocking chair on the front porch.” In this case prepare yourself for some side effects.

First, you will begin to feel resentment towards your boss, the one who cowardly let you down.

Second, your ageing process will soon accelerate. Psychologist’s have discovered that many of the consequences attributed to ageing result from a person accepting not control his life. This explains why so many people get sick or age prematurely a short time after they left there job. These are consequences of feelingĀ  powerless.

On the opposite, people that continue to learn succeed to slow down this process. Their intellectual capacities actually improve. For example learning a new language, even at the age of retirement causes the appearance of new dendrites in the brain.

Are you really retired ? Only you can answer this question. To avoid the two effects already described, don’t let anyone decide of your retirement for you. Instead abide by the following principals.

You Will be retired you decide to retire, or you may decide to retire when you know what you want to do when retired. At that moment you can really continue to grow.

Retirement is not necessarily permanent. Somebody somewhere probably needs your services, and if you decide to go back to work, you are free to do so.

You must not think in term of a job but in terms of a career. Maybe you lost your job, but you may very well find an other opportunity soon.

The third age, never really existed. Its just an illusion like the promise of a society of leisure or universal peace. Every human being who wishes to contribute to the well being of society must be acclaimed with open arms, what ever his age, race, or his religion.
