What is Today’s Reality
To face today’s reality you must get rid of this vision that life is separated in three very delimited phases. Its not valid anymore because of our society’s evolution.
Life is not linear; it has become circular. It’s composed of many uninterrupted periods where you will be in
learning, than at work and at rest. The third age doesn’t exist anymore. You can enter a period of learning when you desire; it’s never too late. You can chose to rest when ever you feel you need it. It could also happen that sickness will prevent you to work whatever your age, but this has nothing to do with your biological age.
We have confused the biologic age and the real age for a long time. The fact is that in our society, it’s a question of a gross simplification. It’s time to add a few nuances.
An individual can get sick at any time in his life. Age is not the only factor to be considered here. Society should take care of people that are suffering and let the others devote themselves to the task that is right for them.
An individual can prove to be old at any time in his life. There are people in their twenties that have ceased to learn, fear change and refuse any idea. They are old. There are others in their 70′s that have an open mind and a quick spirit, are eager to learn, and adapt to change. Those individuals, in spite of their biological age, are still young.
The explosion of knowledge and technologies has had the effect that at any age in life, you can go back to school to update your knowledge.
Let me repeat, life was never linear. If it has given this impression for many years, its because society seemed to be momentarily stable. But that’s false: life is composed of periods of learning, of work and of rest that vary in duration from person to person. The question is not to know what is your biological age,
but to determine what you can bring to society, depending on your capacity, experience, and skill you have to offer.
What you will do for the rest of your life depend on you. Its up to you to determine in what period (learning, work, rest) you wish to live at this moment. You could chose to live all three.
Its up to you to chose the style of life that suits you. Its not up to others to do it for you and impose their point of view. You chose the life to witch you aspire.
